GRANDMA’S FRIDGE AND MATERIAL POSSESSIONS

Here you find out more about my Grandma. There are many blog posts on here that are connected to grandma, who was a major influence to me, growing up.

Today, about the time when Pawel met her for the first time.

DISCUSSION

We ask ourselves why a grandmother talking about ownership of things triggers different responses to when other people approach the subject.

INSPIRATION

This episode’s recommendation is Kieslowski’s 10th Episode of the Dekalog .

I speak about Gather.

MORE INSPIRATION

I really enjoy listening to this podcast on reflections over ownership of things (among other reflections). Britt is concise and thoughtful and often places herself in a small experiment to prove a point to herself.

I love this account on @instagram for the way its author cherishes the day-to-day and particularly the meaning behind things. I get the impression that every thing Maddy owns has a story to tell. But now we are moving into another subject, and on that, another time.

BONUS: AN ACT OF COMPASSION

I asked a question on Instagram and these are the answers you have given me.

I hope you enjoy revisiting and listening to these unique moments in our lives.

The question this week was:

What was the best way someone expressed compassion to you?

Compassion and suspended jumpers

STORY

A Christmas jumper’s alternative life. Once loved and worn over and over, yet in another life, discarded on a beach in Lesbos.

DISCUSSION

When and why do we feel compassion? How should we react to tragedy around us? And what does that teach us about our everyday lives?

Join us on this journey of trying to understand this concept a little more and maybe also stop with us a second to see the sadness that a child-size Christmas jumper was once witness to.

INSPIRATION

This episode’s recommendation is Tania Bruguera’s Hyundai Commission at the Tate.

The exhibition we mention in the show is by a British artist whose details can be found here.

CHANCE ENCOUNTERS

ON CHANCE ENCOUNTERS, DREADLOCKS AND HOW WE MET

This episode is about us. But also about chance, reasons to stay together and … good conversations.

You can find out more about us here and here.

DISCUSSION

Was ours a chance encounter? Were we meant to be? Does it matter that one of us believes we are destined for each other, and the other one… might not?

WHY THIS PODCAST?

why this podcast

This is a non-episode, really. We tell you why we started the podcast, what it is about, where my passion for storytelling comes from.

You can find out more about that here and here.
Here’s an excerpt:

‘A sense of wellbeing. A sense of joy. A moment of deep comfort and of forgetting of self. I want them to come here, listen to this, and leave lighter. Hear some really beautiful stories – those, I have plenty of! Feel encouraged to maybe think about that story in a different way. And maybe feel inspired to watch a film, or read a book, or visit a charity’s website which is somehow connected to the content of the episode.’

The potato and the stone

It was a hot summer’s day. It always is, if it’s school’s sports day. Friday, last week of June.

It was a hot summer’s day, it was school sports day, 8am and no school lunch. Or rather picnic lunch.

It was a hot summer’s day, school sports day, 8am, no picnic prepared – no problem. I was going to attend the day, and bring the picnic lunch with me.

Once upon a time

once upon a time

Do you tell each other stories at bedtime? Do you tell your children stories?

Here’s my answer: we READ stories. It is generally fairy tales from our native countries.  I sneak in my favourites – myths deep-rooted in Romanian culture and traditions, mystical fairy tales with meanings crossing centuries and habits. Continue reading “Once upon a time”
